postheadericon Record Number of Lansing Wrestlers Make State

wrestlingThe Lansing Wrestling Team is sending a record four wrestlers to the State Wrestling Tournament.  William Koll, Connor Lapresi, and Ryan Todd punched their tickets to States last Saturday evening, winning their respective weight classes at the Section4 finals. Corey Dake lost in the finals, but at 5:00 pm Wednesday was named as the 1st At-large Bid at 126 pounds.

William Koll dominated the 113 pound field, pinning his way to the finals. Koll met Windsor's Nate Hayes for the second year in a row and beat him 8-0 for a major decision.  Connor Lapresi wrestled the best tournament of his life, upsetting the #1 seed, Windsor's Jessy Williams 7-1.  Ryan Todd won his 3rd consecutive Section 4 title, pinning BGA's Mark Vivianno in just 1:02.  These three titles matched last year's three section titles as the most in Lansing wrestling history.

Corey Dake was dominating his opponents, pinning his way to the finals. The number 1 seed, Tristan Riffenberg of Norwich, beat Dake in the 126 pound final 5-2. Had Corey won he would have joined older brother Kyle as 4 time Section 4 Champions.

Combine these stellar performances with Greg Lee's 4th place finish at 106, and Dakota White's 5th place finnish at 220, Lansing placed 2nd, 13 points behind Greene, for the Section 4 team title. To put that in perspective, the Lansing team was second out of 31 teams, a combination of Classes B, C, D, with just six scoring wrestlers. There are 15 weight classes.

Next up: The NYSPHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at Albany's Times Union Center, on Friday2/24 and Saturday2/25.
